Read to Unlock
More and more children in Sweden struggle with reading and writing. The reasons vary, but one thing is clear: constant digital distractions are replacing reading — and writing skills drop when reading does.
Read to Unlock is an app that turns a child’s tablet into a gateway to reading. Once installed, the tablet stays locked. To “unlock” it, kids read a chapter in the app and complete fun comprehension questions and short writing tasks. All books are tailored for children in grades 2–5, making the experience playful, rewarding, and age-appropriate.
The project was created in collaboration with Berättarministeriet and launched in spring 2016 — transforming screen time into reading time and earning international recognition.
